Coach Katie Crowley

katieKatie grew up running. Her father started her out young, encouraging her to compete her first road race when she was about 6. After that, she joined the city track team in Madison, WI, and competed in numerous events including the mile and long jump. As a bantam girl, she was 4th in the state for the mile.

Her passion for competition running continued into high school, where she ran cross-country and track her freshman year, prior to being sidelined on an injury. During college she took up running for pleasure and more recently she began extending her running training to marathons, recently completing the Berlin Marathon (Berlin Germany) in September, 2010, and the Houston Marathon (Houston Texas) in January, 2011. She has completed numerous half marathons as well.

While being a runner and a mother, Katie has run for pleasure, stress relief and most significantly weight loss, having lost over 70 lbs after her first pregnancy and 35 after her second, enthusiastically returning to her high school weight both times. She breastfed both children while training for marathons, so she understands how demanding a family can be on training.

Katie’s greatest happiness in running comes not from what she has accomplished, but in what she has helped others to achieve. She loves to meet “non-runners” and help them to cross the finish line.

Katie has a degree from Arizona State University and a Masters from Texas A&M. She is married to local homebuilder and commercial developer Rob Crowley, and they live in College Station with their two daughters.

Coach Lan Ly

lan-lyLan fell in love with running at the age of 13 in junior high school. She competed in cross country and track and field distances of 3200m, 1600m, 800m, and 400m throughout all 4 years of high school.

Lan graduated from the University of California,
San Diego with her B.S. in Biochemistry and then received her Ph.D in Nutrition at Texas A&M University.

Since then, Lan has run 13 marathons and 1 ultra-marathon (60K). She is a 4-time Boston marathon qualifier and loves the atmosphere and energy at races.

Lan is on the planning committee for the B/CS Marathon & 1/2 Marathon event and is thrilled this wonderful event is coming to fruition. Running has become essential for her daily life and believes in the physical and therapeutic health benefits that it brings.

Lan knows that her years of personal running experience and educational background can help you reach your goals.

Coach Kevin Scroggins

Coach Kevin Scroggins at the top of Beaver Creek, CO May 2011

The consummate outdoorsman, Kevin Scroggins has been on the run his whole life. That could be why his coaching motto is, “cardio, cardio, cardio!”

In high school, Kevin was a district and regional champion in the mile and high jump with his 4A Houston ISD track and field team. This early success led him to receiving a track and field scholarship at The University of Texas at Austin.

In addition to more than 20 years experience of running, Kevin began road cycling and has been competitive in duathlons for the past decade. In 2002, he ranked in the top 25 in the state of Texas for the 5K, and in 2004 was named one of the top 700 duathletes by the USA Triathlon Association.

It is this passion for running—along with his desire to motivate others to achieve health— that has led Kevin to training and coaching runners in the College Station area. He has worked with people of all levels to complete long distance running events and duathlons.

With the right coaching, mentorship, and desire, Kevin believes everyone can break past their own barriers to achieve health and fitness.

Kevin resides in College Station and when he is not running, cycling, or coaching others he can most likely be found cooking a new recipe, designing new landscapes for the yard, and traveling.

Coach Troy Grimes

troyTroy is a former “couch potato” that has successfully transformed himself into an ultra-marathon runner.   Approximately eight years ago, Troy decided it was time to “get in shape”.

He began to eat healthier and started a running program.

Within six months, he lost 70 pounds, and still maintains this “new weight” today.

Over the last several years, Troy has completed 20 marathons and 5 ultra-marathons (50k).  These include running two marathons in two days in 2010 and running two 50Ks in two days in 2011.  In addition, he has run countless unofficial half-marathons, full-marathons, and ultra-marathons.   Over the last year and a half, he has completed over 80 runs of half-marathon length or greater.   On September 17, 2011, Troy plans to compete in the USATF 24-Hour Run National Championship in Cleveland with a goal of 100 miles.

When Troy is not running, he works as a software developer at Texas A&M University.  He is married, and has three children ages 20, 18, and 17.

Coach Jessica Rogers

troyJessica has been a runner and self-proclaimed long distance running junkie since running her first mile in junior high school.  She has completed two half marathons and two marathons, narrowly missing qualifying for Boston (running a 3:41:48 in Houston), a goal which she hopes to achieve at the BCS Marathon.

Jessica has also decided to finally make the leap to ultra-marathons and is training for the Rocky Raccoon 50 mile race in February, with dreams of running 100 mile races in the future.

Jessica believes that regardless of whether your goal is to run one mile or 100, the challenge is always the same:  to push yourself past YOUR limits.  Training with a group is one of the greatest ways to accomplish this because you are surrounded by others who share the same goal and who can inspire and motivate you to push yourself further than you thought possible.

Running is a passion for Jessica (and a fantastic way to balance out her love of pasta!).

She would love to share this passion with other runners and help them to achieve their goals.

Jessica graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Finance.  She lives in Bryan with her son Austin.
